How To Write and Illustrate a Children’s Book in 8 Hours

My idea for Two Giraffes came to me after a long fight with my girlfriend. I told her I wanted to meet her parents. She insisted it was a bad idea. I persisted for several days until she finally told them about me.

During my frustrations with never meeting my girlfriend’s family, I decided to channel my energy into developing a children’s book. After 8 hours, I looked at my computer screen and realized I had written and illustrated my first digital children’s story.

What are you most frustrated by? What problems are you trying to solve? Ask these questions and you’ll find inspiration for your next creative story.

Tools do not need to be fancy. All I had was a computer with no prior digital experience. With passion, you can use the resources at your disposal.

What I found most effective was to write out the text of the story first. Then rough sketches. Then full color pages. All you need is 30 pages and you’ve got a story. You can even break boundaries and create children’s stories that are one page or hundreds. You are only limited by your imagination.

Develop a process for your next story and before you know it, you’ll have created something special.

Also, I think anyone can create a story. Children can do it. Adults can do it. It’s the doing it part that we all need to achieve.
